“This system covers 1000 sq. ft.and equals R -100 in insulating value.”
This is so far the wildest
claim wer have ever seen. It contains 20 gallons
of “insulating coating”.
As a rule of thumb, it takes
about 5 gallons to cover 250 square feet to .007 inch
thickness for most paints. Since this is for 1000
square feet, 20 gallons would
coat the roof to about seven thousands of an inch
thickness. At R-100 this would
make a one inch thickness R fourteen thousand two hundred and eighty
five.

We think this so called profession is all about hoaxes, false claims and absurdity journalism.

The prize for most absurd in all history however must go to: BUCKMINSTER FULLER for: Not realizing that dome shaped surfaces are extremely sensitive to thermal diffusivity factors. Many people tried building geodesic domes out of plywood and other common construction materials. These are doomed to failure. Why? Because the surface acts like a wet piece of wood in the sun. Technically the heated side begins to conduct heat at a faster rate than the unheated inside. The faster the transfer of energy, the more force that wants to travel in a straight line. The more force going in straight lines, the more flat that surface becomes. Hence attempts to mend the problem usually made things worse and or warped themselves. A wet piece of wood bends upward towards the sun. This is due to evaporation of the water from the surface and shrinkage. You might think because it is hotter on the sun side it would expand, and therefore would warp the other way. However, radiation bouncing off counteracts this and also the tendency for heat to make the surface flat again. All these effects combine to make a very efficient warp drive, so to speak.
All the internet web pages we found that give information on microsphere paint
additives gave thermal conductance factors that indicate they have no insulation
value that is special at all. Several million dollars are sold each year since 1996 based
on absurd claims. Mainly in Florida and very hot states with NASA publicity.
